Drop-in Summer Camps are SOLD OUT through AUG. 23rd, BUT……

There are still 1 day workshops available on AUGUST 26th and 27th!!! Click on 1 DAY WORKSHOPS on the home page to sign up for either or both!

Age Group: kindergarten through 8th grade

Tuition: 149.00 per child covers one 9 am to 3 pm camp day.  On Monday, campers draw their image. On Tuesdays they paint it. On Wednesdays, they draw their 2nd image. On Thursdays and Friday they paint their second image.

Our Mission at Chris Babcock Summer Art Camp:

1) Instruct art campers in a loving, humorous and charming manner on how to develop creative and technical drawing and acrylic painting skills.

2) Help campers develop peer friendships by encouraging constructive socializing throughout the day.

EARLY CARE: 8:30 am to 9 am  $10 cash per child to be paid at the beginning of each camp day

AFTER CARE: 3 to 5 pm for $20 cash an hour per child to be paid at the beginning of each class day

Aftercare activities: campers are free to make an acrylic painting on bristol board paper and/or watch a kid-friendly film.  For their snack, campers are offered organic popcorn, Pirate Booty and filtered water.

What to wear and bring: Please only wear old clothes and shoes and pack a sack lunch and a big water bottle to last the entire day.

STUDENTS VOTE ON WHICH IMAGES THEY WANT TO STUDY. Each week we offer all new paintings to choose from. On the first day of camp, we show the campers 24 different and all-new images. The images are arranged in two categories: animal/figure & still-life/landscape. After viewing all the images, the campers vote to narrow all the images they study to four animals paintings, four figure paintings and four landscape/still life paintings. At the end of the 5 day camp, each student will have two 15 by 20-inch glossed paintings to bring home, their 6 by 6 inch original painting, and their original stickers.

9 am to 9:45 am is creative drawing and friendship building time:

When art campers arrive, they sit with kids their own age and spend this time talking to each other while working on warming up their right brains by creating original drawings with 28 color Sharpie markers on museum quality bristol paper. The rules of this all week Sharpie drawing exercise are:

1) Each student must draw at least 10 original characters by putting two unlike things together for instance; combine in some way a lady bug and the Transamerica building or an astronaut and a pickle!).

2) Campers must use all 72 colors of sharpies in their drawings, no scribbling is allowed and the drawing is only complete when there is absolutely no white showing on the paper.

9:45-11am: the beginning of formal drawing and painting lesson.  Chris Babcock and her team of teachers show students how to draw an image from scratch using an easy-to-understand grid system.  The students use only the finest professional grade acrylics on archival papers. By the end of the week, each child produces 2 glossed 15 by 20-inch acrylic paintings on archival paper, 1 eight by eight inch original painting and their stickers printed at the art studio from their original sharpie drawings!

11 am to 11:45 is lunch time: Each day during lunch time, kids socialize while they enjoy their sack lunches. Sometimes we offer what we call “Ten Minute Cinema” which is that we show the kids ten minutes of a kid friendly movie the last few minutes of lunch time so the slower eaters can have the time needed to finish their lunch while the faster eaters who are bouncing up and down to go to the park can be entertained. Please note: Any parent is welcome to say no to this and we will not offer “Ten Minute Cinema”.

11:30 to 12:30: Accompanied by three teachers, campers put on green neon vests and walk to the beautiful Roshambeau play ground on 24th at California Street and play on the swings, slide and jungle gym. Campers are offered basketballs, soccer balls, four-square balls and jump rope, too:)

12:30 to 3 pm: the continuation of formal drawing and painting lesson using the finest professional quality acrylic paints on museum quality archival paper.

There are two sweet Pugs at the Art Studio! (See enclosed picture). Yes! We have 2 loving dog mascots on the premises. A 1 year old black male Pug named Little Vincey and an 8 month old Silver Fawn female Pug named Bubbie. They love all of our students! If your child has allergies or a fear of doggies, let us know and we will put Bubbie and Vincey in their kennel at the art studio during your child's art camp.
