What makes Chris Babcock Pre-K Art Lessons so special? Chris Babcock is a published children’s book author, (No Moon, No Milk! Random House/ Scholastic), illustrator and professional portrait artist who has taught thousands of children ages 4 and up how to draw and paint over the last 21 years. She and her team of instructors teach pre-k students to creatively interpret representational images using only a wide array of the brightest and finest professional grade acrylics on archival, museum quality hand made papers imported from around that world. The results are that each child produces expressive paintings that look unbelievably good. So good that most parents immediately frame the paintings and hang them in prominent rooms in their home. This experience gives the pre-k students an enormous amount of self-confidence and inspiration to continue expressing their thoughts and feelings through drawing and painting for the rest of their lives.

Class Description: In Chris Babcock's pre-school art classes, children learn how to hold a paint brush correctly, how to put a variety of pressures on the brush, and how to control the amount of paint on their brush to create thick, bold lines, thin feathery lines and a variety of textures. All these techniques will be used to interpret an image of their favorite animal, place thing, or food and a character from their favorite film, picture book or his or her own life.

Project #1: Creating your favorite animal, place, thing, or food During each 9 week session, students learn how to paint on a variety of handmade papers and then cut out shapes from their many different paper paintings to create their favorite animal, place, thing or food.

Project #2: During each 9 week session, each student will paint their favorite character from their favorite movie, cartoon, picture book or a favorite person in their life (including themselves.) For both painting projects, students will use only professional grade acrylic paints on professional museum quality handmade papers from around the world.

By the end of each 9 week session, your child will bring home two beautiful and completely unique 15 by 20 inch acrylic paintings ready for framing.

What to bring and what to do: bring a lunch if you want your child to eat from 11:45 to 12:15 pm here at the art studio prior to leaving for their afternoon pre-school. Email us your child’s favorite animal, place or thing and favorite character from a film or picture book.
